Golden-Hike at MPEA

During the last hour before sunset, the world undergoes an enchanting transformation as the rays of diffuse light capture the magnificence of the forest. Join Robinson Nature Center naturalists for a 2.5 mile hike through the Middle Patuxent Environmental Area (MPEA) during the “golden hour.” Search for “crepuscular” wildlife (animals active at dawn and dusk), listen to the sounds of the forest as it transitions from day to night and discover fascinating daily changes that occur right under our noses. Bring a camera to capture the fleeting beauty of the dusk-lit forest. Recommended age is 12 yrs+. An adult must accompany children under 18. Please note there is not a restroom at MPEA and you are walking on uneven terrain during the program. Preregistration required. Fee is $10 per person.

Picnic in the Park with the Friends of the Patapsco Female Institute, Inc

Kids and adults enjoy a fun afternoon while experiencing history amidst the stabilized ruins of this 19th- century girls’ school! Bring a picnic or buy food on site. Docent-led tours highlight new information learned about the school and its attendees, and there are fun events for people of all ages, including lawn games, costume try-ons, talks about local and women’s history and costumed historic interpreters. You can even participate in the archaeology dig in the kitchen midden and handle some of the 95,000 artifacts excavated at the site. Free parking and free shuttle from Circuit Court House parking lot. FREE, All ages.

Spring Heritage Day at the Historic Sites

Spring Heritage Day kicks off a new season at the historic sites in Ellicott City. Sites will be open with special activities for all ages to enjoy. A crafting demonstration at the Thomas Isaac Log Cabin will engage visitors with a taste of Colonial life. The Firehouse Museum will have a show & tell corner for the kids. Be sure to visit the Ellicott City Colored School, Restored to check out a new exhibit of photos and documents about the history of the school and some of its former students. FREE. All ages.
