Howard County Historical Society presents The Starvation Army Band

On May 9, the HCHS’s Museum Concert Series presents The Starvation Army Band from 7-9 p.m. in the HCHS’s Museum. Founded in 1989 as an off-shoot of the Columbia Concert Band, The Starvation Band specializes in Dixieland Jazz and added some Klezmer and Swing as well. The Starvation Army Band has entertained many at Howard County events, including Lakefront Concerts, Columbia Festival of the Arts, Vantage House, the Longfellow 4th of July parade and also at the Hebrew House of Greater Washington.

Tickets are $15 per person; free for HCHS members. BYO bottle of wine, if you’d like, or purchase at a 20% discount at The Win Bin in Historic Ellicott City when mentioning the performance.

The Titanic Experience as Play; Robert Neal Marshall, Filmmaker and Playwright

Part of the Salon Series at the Columbia Art Center. Enjoy a unique inside look at the developmental process of creating a new theatrical work, Robert’s recent play 41N 50W. The play premiered last April in Southampton, UK and is a documentary style historical drama based on the 1912 Titanic US Senate Hearings led by Michigan Senator William Alden Smith. The play presents a different perspective on the tragedy and focuses on key players and rescue efforts surrounding the tragedy. Robert will share unique history about the titanic as you are taken on a moving journey directly over the wreck site of the Titanic on the 100th anniversary of the disaster.
