The basis of our melodies originated 2500 years ago in Athens, Greece, and the construction of the scales in its original form has been preserved in India. This concert will be a demonstration of works that illustrate these concepts.
The Wonderment of john Coltrane
John William Coltrane was a major innovator in the world of Jazz. His associations with Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis, and Thelonious Monk laid the foundation for his monumental impact throughout the world. Although he only lived to the age of 40 years, his technique on the tenor and soprano saxophone, as well as his compositions, are still being learned by every serious jazz musician to this day. In the traditional organ trio setting (organ, guitar, drums) we will explore a few of Mr. Coltrane's compositions.
