Every year people all across Maryland are thinking of ways to get out and enjoy the holiday season. Howard County is the perfect way to start, or maintain, holiday traditions for you and your loved ones. We’ve come up with a few things everyone can enjoy, and that can be enjoyed for years to come!

Things To Do

Columbia Ice Rink--Ice skating and winter go hand in hand. Over at the Columbia Ice Rink, guests can enjoy ice skating in public sessions, and there’s also ice skating lessons, hockey, figure skating, and more. There’s even special “walkers” for those of you new to being on the ice.

Toby’s Dinner Theater Presents Miracle on 34th Street--The musical adaptation of the holiday classic comes to life from November 16th-January 7th. Following the story of a young girl who doubts the existence of Santa Claus, until she meets a certain, white-bearded older man. This is a show for all ages and is not to be missed!

Midnight Madness--The yearly late night shopping event returns to Historic Ellicott City on December 1st, from 6pm-12am! Shops will be open late, with Santa himself paying a visit to everyone from 4-8pm at The Log Cabin. There will also be a tree lighting ceremony, treats for the whole family, carolers, period actors, and more. This is the perfect way to spend an evening!

The Annual Bollman Bridge Lighting--Located in Historic Savage Mill, the newly renovated Bollman Bridge will be lit up just in time for the holidays! There will also be a tree lighting ceremony at Carroll Baldwin Hall, and Santa himself will make an appearance at 5:30. Afterwards, stick around and enjoy the unique shops and restaurants of The Mill!

Places to Eat

The King's Contrivance Restaurant has been voted one of Howard County's finest restaurants for more than 20 years. Their menu features new American cuisine with European and Asian influences and is a great choice if you're looking to create a holiday tradition. 

Great Sage--An organic restaurant located in Clarksville, they offer vegan and vegetarian options, as well as healthy kids meals. Some of their menu options include a pulled BBQ jackfruit stack sandwich, a pierogi quesadilla, and so much more.

The Judge’s Bench--This tap house located in Historic Ellicott City features a daily happy hour (including weekends), over 300 whiskeys, nearly 70 single barrel and small batch bourbons, and of course beer. The menu features delicious pub fare, such as burgers, wings, and flatbread pizzas!

Where To Stay

Turf Valley Resort--This beautiful resort, nestled on 1,000 scenic acres, is centrally located right in Ellicott City. Come spend a weekend here, and be sure to check out their hotel packages, including a Holly Jolly Family package and Suite Escape package.
