From an Army Railway Engineers uniform in the B&O's collection which bears the name D. Yates, we have created the composite character of David Yates, through whom to tell the story of railroaders in WWI. As the first Americans to see combat in WWI, these men were called upon to face the horrors of the Front — where there was a dire need for soldiers with railroad expertise. Experience the story of these brave railmen, the women at home who took over their jobs on the B&O, and much more through First to Fight: Railroaders in WWI.   Exhibit opens Friday, May 24 to kick off our Merci! - Weekend of Gratitude during Memorial Day Weekend.
