7:00 pm: Lecture: Pretty Pollinators and the Double Lives They Live
Worldwide, insects provide hundreds of billions of dollars of ecosystem service by pollinating major food crops. In fact, every third bite of food you take is created by pollinators. But many of our pretty pollinators live double lives, providing a second ecosystem service called biological control. Come explore the biology and ecology of predatory and parasitic flies, wasps, beetles, and lacewings - Mother Nature’s hit-squad. Learn how to make your landscape a welcoming home for these beautiful and beneficial insects.
