Lanterns of Hope

Let Your Light Shine in Our Luminary Parade

7pm pre-parade gathering at Patapsco Female Institute
PARADE to Main Street begins at Dusk (approximately 8:20pm)

The Lanterns of Hope Parade descends from the historic Patapsco Female Institute

Walking is necessary to access the historic park grounds of the Patapsco Female Institute.  Only handicap parking is available on-site.  All other parking is at the Mt. Ida or Courthouse Parking lots at the base of the Institute’s grounds.  There will be a shuttle bus at the parking lot.  Those who are able are encouraged to walk up the hill to the gathering.  There are no concessions at the site.  Feel free to bring your own food and drinks.

There will be music and children’s activities as we prepare the lanterns with lights for the parade.

Princess Cherrybella leads the parade down Ellicott City's Main Street

The parade route is one way.  It travels downhill, over some uneven terrain and then onto the sidewalks of local roads.  At some times we will be single file because of the narrow walkways that are indicative of the historic town.  Wear comfortable shoes and plan to hold childrens’ hands.  We will have police assistance.  The parade ends at the B&O Railroad Plaza.  There will be a shuttle bus back up to the site for those who do not wish to walk.  Depending on the size of the crowd, the shuttle will need to make multiple trips and there may likely be a wait.

WORKSHOPS

Make a beautiful lantern for the parade at one of the FREE workshops hosted by the Howard County Library System and the Howard County Welcome Center.  It’s easy and fun for all ages.   Workshops are held throughout April!  Or follow these easy instructions to make your lantern luminaries at home and join in the community celebration! Lantern making is a great team builing project for community groups!
