April is cherry blossom time in Howard County and Blossoms of Hope’s annual pink season brings a month-long celebration of activities that honor the beauty of the trees and help raise cancer awareness. With more than 1,500 beautiful pink Kwanzan cherry trees blossoming in parks, along roadways and at attractions county-wide, spring in Howard County awakens the human spirit filling it with hope, happiness and health.

Maryland Sheep & Wool Festival
Always the First Full Weekend in May
The largest sheep & wool show in the U.S. Shearing, spinning, weaving, working sheep dogs, gourmet lamb, sheep & goat breed shows & more. Free admission & parking at The Howard County Fairgrounds. The Maryland Sheep & Wool Festival is sponsored by the Maryland Sheep Breeders Association, Inc. The Festival’s purpose is to educate the public about sheep and wool. The Festival is organized and conducted by volunteers from the sheep breeding and fiber arts communities.

Turf Valley in Ellicott City brightens the skies and illuminates the night as the centerpiece venue and host of the long running Preakness® Balloon Festival. This three-day long festival offers spectators the chance to enjoy the wonder of hot air balloons, specialty crafts, entertainment, and good food during this fun, family-friendly event. Admission is free!

One of the premiere events in the region and a source of pride for Howard County celebrating it’s 20th anniversary this year. Voted Best Outdoor event by Columbia Magazine in 1997 and 1998 and awarded Best Annual Festival in Howard County by Howard Magazine in 2009. Live Music, food and samples from 20 Maryland wineries.
