Showcasing artists who live, work, or study in Howard County, Maryland are the focus of Art Howard County 2017, a biennial, juried exhibit featuring work in a variety of media. This year’s guest juror is Thomas Engleman, Gallery Director and Professor of Visual Arts at Howard Community College.

Reality proves a fertile playground for the imaginations of the artists showcased in this gallery exhibit. Sabine Carlson’s colorful oil paintings depict fragmented figurative imagery in abstracted landscapes, while Robert Mathews creates unsettling portraits of his ‘imaginary friends.

Artists’ Gallery in Ellicott City continues its current show of artwork to inspire gifts for friends, family and loved ones during the months of December.“The Gift of Art” includes additional small wood objects, ceramic pieces, jewelry, small paintings and other interesting work. Holiday Reception will be held on Saturday, December 16 from 2pm-5pm.
